This is the largest green industrial park in the world, and this is the future of Indonesia.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has expressed confidence that the Indonesian Industrial Park Area (KIPI) in Bulungan, North Kalimantan, will be the future of the green industry in Indonesia.

"This is the largest green industrial park in the world, and this is the future of Indonesia," he said in a press statement after reviewing the progress of the Bulungan industrial area on Tuesday.

His visit was broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

The head of state said he believes that the industrial area would become the future of Indonesia if the development goes well and concurrently sparks interest from green industry players.

"Everyone will surely swarm this place, whatever industry that has to do with green products surely will have a look at this area," he remarked.

The Bulungan Industrial Park Area will be supported by hydropower from Mentarang and Kayan rivers, which run through the province, as a new renewable energy source.

However, all this will be a process: the area will not use green energy from the get-go, and will undergo a transition process, the President said.

"There's transition. However, we expect with such competitive points, (like) green energy, and the created products being green products, these are what would become the power of the Indonesian Industrial Park Area in Central Kalimantan," he elaborated.

Widodo said that he will consistently monitor the progress of the area's development so that it goes according to plan.

"I think upon seeing what's in the practice, it seems like there is no problem, as I have asked. All of the permits are complete, ready," he added.

There are three sections in the 13 thousand-hectare area, which have been earmarked for the electric vehicle battery industry, petrochemical industry, and aluminum industry, he informed.

The area's development began in 2021, with the President performing the groundbreaking on December 21, 2021.

The project involved an investment of US$132 billion, which was generated via a collaboration between Indonesia, China, and the United Arab Emirates. The construction is targeted to be completed by 2024.
