Strong intention, determination, and commitment from all stakeholders are required, both from the government and the community, so that the use of KBLBB can be optimized immediately.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Marves) has officially inducted battery-based electric vehicles (KBLBB) in its official fleet following the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022.

"It is a concrete attempt that shows that the government is serious about encouraging the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia," Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said, according to a statement received on Thursday.

The provision of KBLBB as operational vehicles for each working unit of the coordinating ministry will be carried out in stages.

The coordinating minister said that in the past two years, there has been a significant increase in investment and the manufacturing of EVs in Indonesia, along with the development of other supporting industries.

Hence, the increase in the investment and production of the vehicles needs to be supported by an increase in the use of KBLBBs so that the EV ecosystem in Indonesia can continue to grow, he said.

According to its Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the Indonesian government is targeting to cut carbon emissions by 31.89 percent through its own efforts and by 43.20 percent through international support by 2030.

In addition, Indonesia is also aiming to achieve zero emissions by 2060.

Pandjaitan noted that the transportation sector contributes to 47 percent of the air pollution in Indonesia.

Moreover, the high fuel consumption in the transportation sector has also become one of the obstacles for the government in allocating subsidies, he said.

"Strong intention, determination, and commitment from all stakeholders are required, both from the government and the community, so that the use of KBLBB can be optimized immediately," he added.

Currently, there are seven KBLBB units that will be used as official vehicles at the ministry: a Toyota bZ4X from PT Toyota Astra Motors as well as six Wuling Air EV units from PT SGMW Wuling Motors Indonesia.
