It (the regulation) explicitly supports gender equality in social forestry management.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry is encouraging gender mainstreaming in social forestry to generate more employment opportunities for women as part of national development strategies for realizing gender equality in all sectors.
"This (gender equality) is included in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) as one of the principles which must be mainstreamed in all development programs," Assistant Deputy for Gender Mainstreaming in Social and Cultural Sector at the ministry Eko Novi Ariyanti said on Friday.
During a virtual media talk, she noted that gender integration and mainstreaming in forestry management has, in fact, been carried out by the Environment and Forestry (LHK) Ministry.
"The LHK Ministry has issued the LHK Permen (Ministerial Regulation) Number 9 of 2021 concerning Social Forestry Management. It (the regulation) explicitly supports gender equality in social forestry management," the assistant deputy stated.
She highlighted that Article 90 of the LHK Permen states that the management of village forests, community forests, and community plantation forests, must include the right to receive fair gender-based treatment.
Furthermore, Paragraph 3 of Article 107 of the regulation notes that social forestry management plans are established by considering local wisdoms, forest potentials, market opportunities, gender mainstreaming, as well as long-term forest management, Ariyanti noted.
Meanwhile, Paragraph 4 of Article 189 of the Permen states that gender equality is one of the social aspects that are considered in the evaluation of social forestry management activities, she added.
Earlier, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga invited all parties to strive together for gender equality and realize an equal world for women and men.
She said that eradicating all forms of discrimination against women and achieving gender equality, especially in the workplace, is a task for everyone.
"It has become our responsibility to ensure all work sectors are female-friendly ... Let’s emphasize the spirit of gender equality for the progress of this nation," the minister remarked.
Implementing gender mainstreaming in the workplace will not only benefit female workers, but will also help advance business entities by increasing their productivity, employee performance, and profits, she said.
