"We will leverage the best technology and ingenuity from the United States, Australia, and the UK to design a new class of submarine for Australia and the UK to used," Kritenbrink stated during an online press briefing monitored from here on Tuesday.
Kritenbrink remarked that the partnership aims to assist Australia in modernizing its submarine fleet to apply the same technology, i.e. nuclear-powered submarines that other countries, such as India, the People's Republic of China (PRC), France, the UK, Russia, as well as the United States, have already deployed in the region.
The partnership also aims to strengthen economic opportunities of the three countries.
"We are deepening our long-standing robust defense cooperation to bring our sailors, mariners, and engineers together to make this a reality and to build Australia's stewardship of this powerful technology," Kritenbrink affirmed.
He said AUKUS is an integral part of the US strategy towards the Indo Pacific in a concrete commitment to the Indo-Pacific region by the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
It aims to ensure continued stability and prosperity in the region and across the globe.
"As you know, the United States is an Indo-Pacific nation. We have a deep history in the region," Kritenbrink explained.
The people's economy in national security of all Indo-Pacific nations are inextricably linked, he stated.
Hence, the partnership is sought to realize the full potential and prosperity that the region can achieve in the decades ahead, advancing the three countries' Indo-Pacific strategy together with their allies, partners, and friends.
Kritenbrink also emphasized that the AUKUS Partnership seeks to address several unprecedented challenges.
These challenges include Russia's war on Ukraine, the development of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the climate crisis and its impact on global security and supply chains as well as vulnerabilities.
