Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to collaborate on the development of young talents in the technology sector, which would allow the two countries to share their experiences with each other in the industry.

"President Jokowi (Joko Widodo) and I also discussed new areas of cooperation. First, on digital economy. We signed a memorandum of understanding on the tech expert program today. This will allow young tech professionals from Singapore and Indonesia to undergo work exchanges and gain experience from each other's tech industry," Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong informed.

He made the remarks at a joint press conference with President Joko Widodo after the “2023 Indonesia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat” in Singapore on Thursday.

The collaboration in tech human resources development will enhance collaboration among ASEAN countries in the information sector, he noted.

"Our tech cooperation will strengthen ASEAN collaboration in this emerging sector, and this includes working towards the digital economy framework agreement under Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship," he said in his statement, which was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s official YouTube channel.

Speaking at the same press conference, President Joko Widodo expressed his positive views regarding the agreement on information and technology human resources development as well as investment for data center establishment.

"Collaboration in the digital sector, including investment and data center, as well as collaboration on human resources development in the informatics and technology sector, and currently, there are Apple Academy and IBM Academy in Batam," the head of state said.

At the leaders' retreat, President Widodo and PM Loong discussed Singapore's keenness to support the development of the new Indonesian capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, an investment agreement on the new renewable energy sector, and collaboration in the trade of livestock products.

They also talked about the development of medical services and technology as well as investment for the development of Indonesia's hospitals.
