I ask the regional government to immediately form a special task force…and take action against foreign nationals who disturb public order and cause unrest.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo has asked the Bali provincial government to form a special task force for handling foreign tourists or nationals who disturb public order.

"I ask the regional government to immediately form a special task force, which includes police and immigration officers, that will later supervise, handle foreign tourists, and take action against foreign nationals who disturb public order and cause unrest," he said in a written statement received here on Thursday.

He made the statement in relation to the issue of foreign visitors coming to Bali and violating Indonesian law, such as making Indonesian ID cards illegally and abusing their stay and work permits.

He also asked the regional government and law enforcement officers to pay serious attention to the issue of tourists disturbing public order. He said that the government and law enforcement officers need to strengthen efforts to take firm action.

"Because the problems of foreign tourists in Bali that have not been resolved can affect the interest of tourists from other countries who really want to visit Indonesia," he added.

Soesatyo also asked the Bali government to regularly update data on foreign tourists visiting Bali as well as check their identity and their stay permits.

That way, foreigners who are already on record would be easy to trace and the legality of their identity and stay permits could be checked, he added.

He also asked the government not to hesitate to take firm action against tourists who violate immigration rules.

"I also ask for the commitment of the government to not hesitate in taking firm action up to deporting foreign tourists who violate immigration rules," the MPR speaker stressed.
