"On March 14, 2023, the West Manggarai Regional Government received a letter from the Ministry of Health regarding the appointment of Komodo Labuan Bajo Hospital as the referral hospital for the ASEAN Summit. The hospital management must prepare the hospital to welcome the event," head of West Manggarai District, Edistasius Endi, stated in Labuan Bajo on Monday.
The ministry appointed Labuan Bajo Hospital as a referral hospital for the VIP delegation of the ASEAN Summit that will be held in Labuan Bajo on May 9-11, 2023.
Thus, the ministry has urged the local government to prepare several types of services for the delegates, including a special VIP emergency room, VIP treatment room, VIP isolation room, and VIP ICU room.
Based on this request, Endi held a coordination meeting with the Health Ministry to identify various hospital needs, including the readiness of cardiologists.
"So far, we have no cardiologist. Therefore, we coordinated with the Health Ministry regarding the readiness of cardiologists," he stated.
Apart from preparing human resources, such as reliable doctors, the West Manggarai District Government is also looking for solutions to fulfill the requirement for supporting equipment for cardiologists.
"Some 10 days prior to the event, the equipment must be ready," he noted.
He emphasized that all stakeholders will work quickly, precisely, and correctly in accordance with the existing regulations.
"We are ready to become a referral hospital for the 42nd ASEAN Summit," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Director of the Komodo Labuan Bajo Hospital Melinda Gampar stated that the hospital management was ready to meet the various needs requested by the Health Ministry.
The government-owned hospital has prepared the fourth floor of the new building for VIP services with lift access, Gampar stated.
"The hospital is ready for this task as directed by the district head," she noted.
Apart from the Komodo Labuan Bajo Hospital, Siloam Hospital and Santo Yosep Hospital in Labuan Bajo were also appointed as referral hospitals for the ASEAN Summit. In other islands, Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital in Makassar and Professor dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital in Bali are also appointed as the referral hospitals.
