"We see that the literacy culture needs to be promoted among the public to the grassroots level," Library Resources Development Deputy at the National Library Adin Bondar said in a statement issued on Monday.
"This is the concept that we are developing through the TPBIS program, which has a multiplier effect for villagers and urban residents," he added.
Since the program’s launch in 2018, TBIPS has drawn participants from 33 provinces, 296 districts or cities, and 1,696 villages, he informed.
The National Library has already implemented the TPBIS pilot project in 6 villages in Karangasem District, Bali, including in Bukit Village.
Regional governments are replicating the TPBIS so that communities can develop strong literacy and use the opportunity to improve their lives, he said.
The National Library will also synergize the TPBIS with the Women and Child-Friendly Villages (DRPPAs) program initiated by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection.
Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga recently underlined the importance of gender mainstreaming in libraries since women have a crucial role in the development of literacy, which begins with them and their families.
"Women play the main role in developing families' literacy culture," she said in a statement issued on Monday in relation to her visit to the National Library's mentee group in Bukit Village, Karangasem, Bali.
"Good literacy in families will develop quality and competitive human resources," she added.
Her ministry has lauded the women's empowerment work visit activity for literacy strengthening in Bukit Village's library, which is a form of collective commitment to improving women's capacity and economic independence.
