Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said his ministry will collaborate with Skouw Cross-Border Post (PLBN), Jayapura, Papua, Chief Administrator Yan Numberi, for tourism and creative economy development in Indonesia-Papua New Guinea (PNG) border.

"We would carry out two agendas to revive the tourism sector and the creative economy in border areas," the minister noted in a written statement received here, Thursday.

The agenda for tourism and creative economy development in the border region aims to restore the condition of the Skouw PLBN to what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic when 1,500 foreign tourists had entered Indonesia, he remarked.

"The first agenda is the improvement of tourism infrastructure and the creative economy within the framework of the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) that will be proposed in collaboration with the Jayapura City Tourism Service," Uno explained.

Moreover, he plans to hold the cross border festival in 2023 that necessitates the governments of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea to collaborate. This festival, offering a variety of arts, cultures, music, films, micro, small, and medium (MSMEs) bazaars, and sporting events, such as fun runs, is expected to bring in two thousand foreign tourists.

"Later, we will also cooperate with the Papua Youth Creative Hub that was just launched in Jayapura. I believe the fun run will attract many people with its own charm because the run will be covering two countries," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the MSMEs bazaar is expected to revive the economy, especially for Papuan creative economy owners, as an effort to create 4.4 million jobs in 2024, the minister noted.

Meanwhile, Chief Administrator of the Skouw PLBN, Yan Numberi, expressed hope that the condition at the Skouw PLBN would return to normal when it was inaugurated.
