There are (several recommendations for) slight improvements, but not major ones…Thus, we will carry out some more adjustments.
Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) carried out a final inspection to ensure the readiness of Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya city, East Java province, for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

"The inspection was carried out according to the suggestions given by FIFA before," head of the Surabaya City Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office Wiwiek Widayati said in a statement on Monday.

The representatives of the international soccer governing body checked each facility at the stadium, such as locker rooms, the pitch, the media center, as well as supporting fields A and C, she added.

FIFA also reviewed the ticket sales, parking routes, as well as the northern parking lot of the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, which is currently being revitalized, she said.

In addition, the FIFA delegation checked the training fields for the participants of the cup, namely the Gelora 10 November Field and Surabaya Pancasila Stadium.

"We also reviewed (the preparedness of) the entrance (route) for supporters. Those were the matters we discussed (with FIFA) earlier (during the inspection)," the office head said.

FIFA provided a number of notes for the improvement of the supporting fields, which will need to be followed up on soon, she added.

"There are (several recommendations for) slight improvements, but not major ones… Thus, we will carry out some more adjustments," she informed.

However, overall, the facilities at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium and the training fields are ready to support the implementation of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held from May 20 to June 11, 2023, Widayati said.

She assured that the Surabaya city government and all other stakeholders will keep striving to prepare for the implementation of the tournament.

Following an earlier inspection conducted by FIFA, Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium was asked to fix access for media crews, facilities for disabled spectators, parking lots, and seats on the southern grandstand.

In addition to the stadium, the Indonesian government has prepared Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (Jakarta); Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (West Java); Jakabaring Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium (South Sumatra); Manahan Stadium (Central Java); and Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Bali) for hosting the cup.
