S Lampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Mount Anak Krakatau in South Lampung District, Lampung Province, erupted several times from Tuesday morning to afternoon, producing ash columns reaching 2,500 meters high, according to the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Agency (PVMBG).

Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa Sub-district, South Lampung District, Andi Suardi appealed to the public to not conduct any activity within a radius of five kilometers of the active crater.

"Currently, Mount Anak Krakatau is at Level III, or Alert status. Hence, it is recommended to the residents, fishermen, and hikers to not approach the mountain within a radius of five kilometers," he emphasized.

Mount Anak Krakatau monitoring officer, Anggi Nuryo Saputro, reported that the first eruption in the day occurred at 4:12 a.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB), with a grey thick 800-meter-high ash column leaning towards the northeast, as quoted from the website of PVMBG.

It was recorded on a seismograph, with a maximum amplitude of 60 millimeters (m) and a duration of two minutes and 25 seconds, the officer revealed.

Another eruption occurred at 7:43 a.m. WIB. The volcano spewed a black thick ash column, with a height of two thousand meters leaning towards the northeast, Saputro remarked.

The eruption was recorded, with a maximum amplitude of 65 mm, and a duration of one minute and 58 seconds.

The 157-meter volcano also erupted at 12:21 p.m. WIB, with an eruption column observed as high as 2,500 meters and a maximum amplitude of 74 mm and a duration of two minutes and 26 seconds, Saputro noted.

Mount Anak Krakatau spewed a black thick ash column towards the west this time.

Furthermore, the mountain spewed a thick black to grey 1,500-meter-high ash column at 3:13 p.m. WIB towards the west, the officer stated.

This eruption was recorded with a maximum amplitude of 70 mm and a duration of one minute and 29 seconds.
