Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the Presidential Staff Moeldoko has said that the presidential letter (surpres) on the Domestic Workers’ Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) will be sent to the House of Representatives (DPR) without delay.

"The surpres is currently being processed by the Secretary of State to be sent to the DPR RI as soon as possible," he informed at a joint press conference at Bina Graha Building in Jakarta on Thursday.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy and the Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati also attended the press conference on the PPRT Bill.

While awaiting the presidential letter, the government is working to rearrange the problem inventory list (DIM) of the PPRT Bill as well as preparing a consignment session for public and political communications, Moeldoko said.

He also assured that the government has accommodated the inputs of other institutions, including civil society organizations, in the preparation of the DIM.

On March 18, 2023, President Joko Widodo said that the government has a strong passion and commitment to providing protection to domestic workers.

He then ordered ministries and non-ministerial government agencies (K/L) to work hard to turn the PPRT Bill into law or ensure it is finalized as soon as possible. During a plenary session on March 21, the DPR made the PPRT Bill its initiative bill.

Then, on March 27, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani sent a letter to the President.

Moeldoko informed that the President has assigned ministries that will represent the government during deliberations on the bill with the DPR.

"Those who are likely to become the leading sector are the Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Law and Human Rights," he added.

Furthermore, the relevant ministries will speed up formulating the DIM of the PPRT Bill, which concerns five main issues, namely the issue of bias related to domestic workers, discrimination, education, inequality, and poverty.

The government has extended the PPRT task force to become a consolidated home for all ministries/institutions that are not included in the presidential decree.

"In this way, work will be carried out effectively and harmoniously because it involves ministries and institutions," Moeldoko said.

Meanwhile, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati said that the Domestic Workers’ Bill is the government's effort to give recognition to domestic workers.

"So the crucial things that need to be paid attention to are health insurance, social security for domestic workers," she added.
