In this aid, we don't just give houses awayJakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini on Friday inaugurated Jakarta Sentra Mulya Jaya Flats in Bambu Apus, East Jakarta, which have been built for people in need of social welfare services.
The minister said that Sentra Mulya Jaya is the second apartment building after Pangudi Luhur Integrated Flats in Bekasi that she has inaugurated for the beneficiaries.
"In this aid, we don't just give houses away. We are assisted by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry in preparing these flats, but we also help them (in the process)," she said here on Friday.
The occupants of the flats are beneficiaries who have been assessed for at least four to five months. The beneficiaries can use the flats as temporary housing until they can live independently off social aid, the minister explained.
She said that the beneficiaries only need to pay Rp10 thousand per month (US$0.67) to stay in the flats. The flats will have several kinds of occupants, such as people living with disabilities, elderly people, and vulnerable people.
According to Rismaharini, there will be a mapping of issues faced by beneficiaries during their stay in the flats.
She said that some occupants may face problems related to educating their children, so they would need decent jobs to support their children’s education.
"God willing, we will help prepare it," she added.
In some instances, some beneficiaries have refused to live in flats made by the ministry since they have no idea what they would look like, she informed.
It is expected that beneficiaries who live in the flats can set an example for others and make them more amenable to the ministry’s assistance until they can become financially independent, the minister elaborated.
The ministry will provide some training options to occupants, including in the fields of fashion, culinary, and clean-ups, which they can choose based on their preferences.
"Yes, there will be evaluation, routine monitoring. I have done it since I was in Surabaya. Once they are able, they will get out," the minister said.
The five-story flats comprise 93 rooms. They can accommodate 76 families or 259 people, Rismaharini added.
