Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has said that the government is preparing as many as 9 thousand toilets at 127 rest areas along toll roads for travelers.

"The toilets, which were around 6 thousand toilets in 127 toll road rest areas last year, this year, (there) are 9 thousand toilets. The government has prepared them to support 'smooth urination' for travelers," he said at the Presidential Palace complex here on Wednesday.

He noted that the PUPR Ministry has also set up temporary resting areas at a number of points, such as on Cipali Toll Road KM 81 over an area of 5 hectares and Tangerang-Merak Toll Road KM 97 toward Merak Port.

Vehicles, on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, headed to Merak Port, can use the rest area to park or rest while waiting for entering the ferry.

"It can reduce the queue," Hadimuljono said, adding that the ministry is also readying the Cisumdawu Toll Road to be used as an exodus route from Cileunyi to Dawuan, West Java, with a length of 90 km.

His side is also preparing a direct route from Solo to Yogyakarta, starting from the Semarang-Solo Toll Road exit.

"(We are preparing) the Solo-Yogyakarta (direct route) starting from the Semarang-Solo Toll Road exit, so people headed to Yogyakarta no longer need to pass through Kartosuro. They can avoid seven traffic lights, which would help reduce congestion," the minister said.

The total length of toll roads operating in Indonesia has reached 2,620.01 km with 70 toll road sections managed by 49 toll road business entities (BUJTs), according to information provided on the ministry's website.

In Java Island, the length of the toll roads has reached 1,718.16 km, thus it is important to set up rest areas.

Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit stated earlier that rest areas on toll roads must be ready in terms of facilities that can be accessed by all people.
