We prepare for the ASEAN Summit well, so that we can promote our nation in the eyes of the international world
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is preparing to ensure security for the 42nd ASEAN Summit scheduled to be held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, in May.

The security success achieved at the G20 Summit in Bali will serve as a guide for providing security for the 2023 ASEAN Summit, Head of Polri's Public Relations Inspector General Sandi Nugroho remarked here, Friday.

However, Nugroho did not outline the preparations being made by the police. Nevertheless, at every opportunity, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo continued to remind about preparations to secure the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

During the position handover event on March 31, the police chief told his staff that several national and international agendas required additional security from the Polri to ensure that matters are under control.

The closest national agenda is security for the 2023 Eid al-Fitr during which 123.8 million people are estimated to travel during the Eid homecoming. The other important agenda is the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

"We prepare for the ASEAN Summit well, so that we can promote our nation in the eyes of the international world," he affirmed.

During the G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022, the police conducted the Puri Agung Operation that reflected the institution's efforts in implementing security of international standards.

Over 13 thousand police personnel were involved in securing the G20 Summit. Under the operation, the National Police involved three Regional Police (Polda): Bali Polda, West Nusa Tenggara Polda, and East Java Polda.

In securing the G20 Summit, the police applied the latest technologies, right from Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) to facial recognition to optimize efforts in identifying people on the wanted list.

Despite the existence of facial recognition technology, the police still conduct stringent examinations of the people entering and leaving Bali.

In addition, the Puri Agung Operation was supported by the use of electric vehicles as operation vehicles. Hundreds of electric vehicles were specifically delivered from Jakarta to Bali.

One of the proofs of Polri's success in securing the G20 Summit was when French President Emmanuel Macron chose to walk for two kilometers after the Dinner Gala in Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK).
