The Head of DKP of Papua Province, Iman Djuniawal, stated in Jayapura on Monday that his team had dispatched several officers to conduct the trials.
"Several obstacles have arisen, including those related to the regional regulation regarding fees that requires attention," he remarked.
Despite still being in the trial phase, he explained that his team is currently completing several facilities and infrastructures, such as constructing clean water tanks around the pier and the Syahbandar Building to monitor the departures and arrivals of fishing boats.
"We are trying to complete several facilities and infrastructures so that PPI can operate optimally later. That way, data collection will be better," he stated.
By operating the facility, the fishery potential in Jayapura City is expected to be managed properly, which will drive fishery exports in future.
Moreover, Jayapura City has good-quality fish and vast potential, he said.
"In the future, PPI Hamadi will become a place for marketing fish as well as a culinary center if port activities are going well," Djuniawal stated.
He affirmed that the DKP's focus in 2023 is more on arranging facilities and infrastructures to harness the potential of exports.
"After PPI Hamadi, we will arrange Waiya in Jayapura District and then Pandoi in Biak Numfor. What is clear is that this year, we will improve PPI, so managing the fisheries potential can be better," he remarked.
