Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Transportation Ministry is offering 10,440 free spots under the motorcycle freight (Motis) program for the Eid exodus period.

"The registration for this public service-oriented Motis has been open since March 1 (2023), and as of today at 12 p.m., there were 7,300 motorcycles registered from our capacity of 10,440,” DJKA's director of railways traffic and transport, Djarot Tri Wardhono, said here on Monday.

He explained that the Motis program for this year’s Eid exodus is slightly different from the previous year.

The first difference is about the transportation crossing that is divided into three crossings, namely the north, central, to south lanes.

The north crossing encompasses Cilegon Station - Pasar Senen Station - Tawang Station, Semarang.

The central crossing includes Pasar Senen Station - Purwosari Station.

The south crossing covers Kiaracondong Station - Purwosari Station.

"There will be many people in these three crossings. We want to spread the proportion or distribution of the motorcycles,” he explained.

He said that, unlike last year, for this year's Eid Motis freight program, DJKA has created a bundling scheme, under which motor transport trains and passenger transport trains will stick together.

In addition, the 2023 Motis program is offering a cheap tariff compared to last year, he added.

For instance, the Motis program in the northern lane will cost Rp10 thousand/pax for a travel distance of 0 to 330 km, and Rp20 thousand/pax for a distance of above 330 km.

"The (Motis) tickets are quite cheap at Rp10 thousand–20 thousand. Last year, they paid the price same to the (train) ticket, meaning they paid Rp100 thousand, if the train ticket was Rp100 thousand,” he explained.

The Motis program will be held from April 10–25 for the exodus period, and April 25–May 4 for the return flow.

DJKA is also running this program in Tangerang, Depok, and Bogor, where prospective passengers can hand over their motorcycles directly.
