Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of National Development Planning and head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Suharso Monoarfa, has said that all parties need to collaborate to address seven issues impeding tourism development to realize quality tourism.

He delivered the statement during a ministerial meeting held to finalize the National Integrated Tourism Master Plan (ITMP) at the Bappenas Office, according to a post on his official Instagram account @suharsomonoarfa, which was accessed from here on Tuesday.

"Great tourism is shown by an increase in added value received by the hosts or local communities, and an increase in foreign exchange value through increasing the length of stay and spending of tourists," he said.

Realizing great tourism in Indonesia will also require improving the quality of attractions, the readiness of industry and the community, and the capacity of tourism human resources, he added.

Meanwhile, the seven tourism development issues are the lowering of environmental quality, poor governance of destinations, poor services, low tourism human resource capacity, limited access to air, land, and sea transportation, lack of investment in the tourism sector, and lack of disaster preparation.

Currently, he said, collaboration among many parties is being supported through the Integrated and Sustainable Tourism Development Program (P3TB).

The collaboration through P3TB is expected to result in clear directions to tourism attraction managements on improving governance, accessibility, basic infrastructure, and community capacity, and thus, attract more investment.

"Tourism destinations discussed in this meeting are Lake Toba, Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan, Raja Ampat, and Wakatobi," he said.

Monoarfa further stressed that the tourism sector plan must include increasing competitiveness and resilience through the diversification of economic activities in the tourism supply chain.

"This is supported by the readiness of tourism attractions, a conducive business environment, which includes micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and quality tourism image development," the minister said.
