"The West Sulawesi Government will work along with TNI to continue to make improvements to tourist destinations in Karampuang Island," Malik stated in Mamuju on Tuesday (April 18).
Malik noted that based on the provincial government's assessment, tourism in Karampuang Island, located a kilometer away from Mamuju, has yet to meet expectations in terms of marine tourism, for which improvement is necessary.
"Karampuang Island still has no marine tourism, so we will work together with TNI to create a beach tourism object by building facilities, beach volley spots, villas, and mangrove tours," he noted.
To that end, he said, both sides will start by arranging public open spaces so as to bolster the tourism appeal.
"We will implement various tourism programs by creating local art tours to showcase," he stated.
He is confident that the efforts to develop Karampuang Island's tourism will equate to the revival of sea transportation, particularly in Mamuju that in turn will attract more tourists to visit.
In addition, development efforts will boost the local community's economy through the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
