State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga stated on Thursday that the one-way traffic scheme extension was decided due to an increase in the volume of vehicles coming from Jakarta and heading to the east towards the Eid al-Fitr festivities.
Jasa Marga's Head of Corporate Communication and Community Development, Lisye Octaviana, said the one-way scheme has been continued under the police's discretion.
As per the extension, the policy will be enforced from KM 70 to KM 414 with road users from Cikampek directed to Kota Bukit Indah to re-enter the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road via the Kalihurip 2 Toll Gate.
The one-way policy extension is expected to end on Thursday at midnight or at 12 a.m. local time.
However, if the volume of vehicles heading eastward continues to increase three hours before Thursday midnight, then the policy might be extended again.
Jasa Marga urged road users to exercise caution while driving, obey the traffic rules, and follow the on-standby officers' directions.
"(Road users must) ensure enough supplies, electronic money balance, and fuel (before) entering the toll road, so that the trip can be more comfortable," Octaviana stated.
According to PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, a subsidiary of Jasa Marga, 266,184 vehicles left Jakarta through the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate during the period of the seventh day before (D-7) and the fourth day before (D-4) Eid al-Fitr.
During the same period, the volume of vehicles crossing the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate increased by 138.65 percent as compared to the normal traffic at around 111,537 vehicles.
