Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry, through manpower offices in all provinces, has organized the 2023 Futsal League Competition to mark National Workers' Day or May Day, which will be commemorated on May 1.

Head of the South Kalimantan Manpower and Transmigration Office, Irfan Sayuti, said here on Friday that the futsal league is a program organized by the ministry to connect with trade unions.

"This activity is one of the programs from the ministry held simultaneously across all of Indonesia to commemorate this year's May Day," he added.

The futsal league in South Kalimantan will be participated by workers and workers’ union organizations.

"This is a platform for workers. There is a quota of 12 teams that we will give to workers as well as representatives from companies," he said.

The theme for this year's May Day commemoration is “Knitting Workers and Businessmen Unity on Eid.”

According to Sayuti, the futsal league is a positive event held as a form of social gathering through a sports competition.

He said he expects the competition to strengthen the relationship between the government, businesspersons, and workers, and make it more harmonious and just.

Meanwhile, head of the South Kalimantan Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSBSI), Mesdi, said that the confederation welcomed the activity organized by the ministry.

"The National Workers' Day is one of the moments of victory for workers, thus let us celebrate it with positive things," he added.

Mesdi said that the confederation will not only hold a futsal competition, but also a joint exercise and a cheap bazaar.

The peak of the 2023 National Workers' Day commemoration in South Kalimantan will be held at 0 KM Banjarmasin and will be attended by around three thousand workers from across South Kalimantan.
