"Election supervisors should monitor (the registration process) to adhere to KPU (General Elections Commission) regulations and Law No. 7 of 2017 on Elections. The monitoring for this election phase must be thorough," Bawaslu Commissioner Totok Hariyono noted as per the statement here on Tuesday.
The commissioner's remarks were made at the meeting to discuss supervision in the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and province-, district-, and city-level legislatures (DPRD) candidates' registrations that took place virtually on Monday (May 1).
As mutual assistance is the principle in Bawaslu's supervision work, Hariyono urged that all parts of Bawaslu collaborate to monitor election conduct and prevent violations of election regulations.
Proper supervision will ensure the election conduct is consistent with prevailing laws and regulations, he stated.
"Election supervisors must work together by the mutual assistance principle to provide the best service for election participants," the commissioner remarked.
He also urged election supervisors to work full-time, as phases in the 2024 Election will take place successively without interruption.
On Sunday (April 30), the KPU announced that registration for candidates of the DPR RI, DPRD, and Regional Representative Council (DPD) members would take place from May 1 to May 14, 2023.
KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari noted that the registration of DPR RI candidates would be made by the political party leaders at the central KPU office in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the registration of DPRD candidates will take place at their respective regional levels. Hence, provincial DPRD candidates must register at the province-level KPU office and municipal DPRD candidates at the city-level KPU office, he explained.
He emphasized that DPD RI candidates should register at the province-level KPU office on grounds that they have fulfilled the minimum electorate support to advance to the next registration phase, as announced by the electoral commission on Saturday (April 29).
