Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President (VP) of the Republic of Indonesia Ma'ruf Amin has asked Indonesian stakeholders to form an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem so that it can be accessed by all people in the country.

"The advantage of the digital finance sector is as an opportunity as well as a challenge for all stakeholders to form an effective, innovative, inclusive, and sustainable digital financial ecosystem," he said here on Wednesday.

He highlighted the important role of digital financial products and services among the public, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a pandemic, digitalization is the most effective solution for helping people whose mobility is limited.

This also triggers a shift in people's behavior, transitioning from conventional transaction patterns to digital ones.

Therefore, Amin stressed the importance of expanding access to digital financial services in various parts of Indonesia.

"Digital financial services need to be expanded to reach people in all corners of the country in order to increase financial inclusion, which will encourage purchases (and support the development) of a strong, sustainable, and more equitable national economy,” he explained.

Besides expanding access, the Vice President also expressed the hope that stakeholders, such as ministries and institutions, will encourage the creation of digital talent to keep pace with digitalization developments.

Indonesia's digital talents are expected to not only contribute to digital transformation within Indonesia, but also at the level of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), he added.

However, ASEAN, he said, is facing the problem of digital inequality, which its member countries need to address jointly.

In this context, Indonesia can take advantage of the momentum of the 2023 ASEAN chairmanship to encourage digital transformation in ASEAN for the sake of regional economic growth.

"I hope that ASEAN cooperation will bring out digital talent in every ASEAN country," said Amin.
