Kendari, SE Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Home Affairs Ministry has urged the Kendari city government, Southeast Sulawesi, to develop the waterfront city concept by prioritizing the tourism, fisheries, trade, and services sectors.

"This region, which is called Lulo city, is suitable to be developed into a waterfront city by prioritizing the tourism, fisheries, trade, and services sectors," Inspector General of the Home Ministry Commissioner General Tomsi Tohir Balaw said here on Friday.

Balaw served as the Inspector of Ceremonies at the commemoration of the 192th anniversary of Kendari city in Southeast Sulawesi.

According to him, as a coastal city, Kendari is suitable to be developed into an area that can support water tourism, fisheries, trade, and services.

In addition, he said that Kendari city has a large working-age population, thus, it has the potential to emerge as a new economic growth center.

At 192 years, Kendari city is considered mature enough in carrying out further development, which requires focused efforts from all parties, Balaw said.

"Experience is the best teacher, therefore, Kendari's long experience of 192 years is expected to be the basic capital to become the facade of the Southeast Sulawesi province," he said.

Furthermore, he offered his congratulations over Kendari city and expressed his gratefulness to be a part of the event.

"I am happy to be part of the Kendari city community, which is famous for its hospitality and cooperation," he said.

Meanwhile, Kendari acting mayor Asmawa Tosepu said that his side will continue to develop and improve it.

However, this must be balanced through cooperation between parties, especially in terms of facilitating activities in government and social affairs, he said.

"Thank you for all the support, and cooperation that has been given to the city government so that we can carry out the duties and responsibilities mandated by the state," Tosepu added.
