Improving coastal residents' welfare and standard of living… is one of the measures to help achieve several targets of the National Priority Programs in 2023.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Maritime Village (KBN) Program initiated by the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) aims to help achieve the goals of making Indonesia become a developed country in 2045 as reflected in the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision, according to Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali.
While inaugurating the program in Untung Jawa Island, Thousand Islands Administrative District here Monday, Ali said the program aims to develop and empower coastal areas, which is within the purview of the Navy.
"As a state apparatus, the Navy has a vital role to realize the strategic agenda, and the Navy's capacity (in this program) is consistent with the law, which is to empower maritime defense," the chief of staff emphasized.
The Nusantara Maritime Village Program has been launched simultaneously at 68 coastal villages across Indonesia and has five program clusters—defense, economy, education, health, and tourism.
"Improving coastal residents' welfare and standard of living through the Nusantara Maritime Village Program is one of the measures to help achieve several targets of the National Priority Programs in 2023," Ali informed.
The priority programs comprise realizing quality and competitive human resources and enhancing political, legal, defense, and security stability in Indonesia, he added.
Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, who inaugurated the program in person, said the Nusantara Maritime Village would be vital for national development and help the government resolve social issues.
"I think the Nusantara Maritime Village Program initiated by the Indonesian Navy is vital. The KBN Program, divided into five clusters of education, economy, healthcare, tourism, and defense, is consistent with the government's program to address poverty issues in coastal villages," Amin expounded.
He further said that improving the quality of village residents, including in coastal regions, will be an indicator to determine the success of national development.
"That is why the government is focusing its attention on the development of villages and rural areas, including those in coastal areas, minor and outermost islands," he said.
