"We must give them lessons by temporarily revoking the KJP because it is not in line with the original goal, and there are others who need it more, so we transfer it to them," acting head of the Jakarta Education Office, Syaefuloh Hidayat, said here on Tuesday.
KJP Plus is provided by the government to help underprivileged students, he noted. The money can be used for purchasing school needs such as bags, uniforms, shoes, and books.
Students can also use KJP funds for transportation money and for purchasing subsidized food, such as meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and others.
According to him, a school is a place for students to study, where they must receive education about the dangers of smoking.
He added that his office will first revoke the KJP benefits for six months, and if a student improves their behavior, their benefits could be activated again.
According to the Jakarta Education Office, there are 23 restrictions that must be obeyed by KJP Plus recipients.
"Based on Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No. 110 of 2021 concerning social assistance for education costs, there are 23 prohibitions that must be obeyed by KJP Plus recipients," the office said on its Instagram handle @disdikdki.
The sanctions will be calculated cumulatively based on the number of violations committed. The sanctions range from holding on to KJP Plus funds to termination based on recommendations provided by schools.
The prohibitions for KJP Plus recipients include:
1. Spending educational assistance for purposes outside the regulation
2. Indulging in smoking
3. Using and distributing narcotics and illegal drugs
4. Indulging in immoral acts/promiscuity/sexual harassment
5. Engaging in violence/bullying
6. Getting involved in a school brawl
7. Getting involved in motorcycle gangs/school gangs
8. Drinking/consuming alcoholic beverages
9. Stealing
10. Committing extortion
11. Getting into fights
12. Engaging in fraud
