"I found out that the roads were indeed damaged. Hence, we will commence repair works in July to August," he told journalists on the sidelines of the inspection as seen in a video broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's official YouTube channel on Tuesday.
According to Jokowi, 4,600 kilometers of the total 10 thousand km district/municipal roads in Jambi are in a damaged condition. Furthermore, 250 km of the 1,030 km of provincial roads are damaged, he noted. Further, 130 km of 1,030 km national roads are also in a similar state.
The President informed that the central government will handle the repairs of half of the damaged district/municipal roads, with special attention accorded to roads used for logistical purposes.
"Logistical and production roads are of the essence. Therefore, we will prioritize such roads, especially those that are highly damaged," he informed.
The President further said that such repair works would not only be implemented in Jambi.
Roads in other provinces will also get the same treatment to ensure that activities related to production and logistics can run smoothly, he added.
Earlier, at the beginning of this month, President Jokowi made a visit to Lampung to review damaged roads. At the time, he said that the central government will allocate a budget of Rp800 billion for repairing roads in Central Lampung District.
In addition, he invited the people to report any roads with significant damage in their respective regions that have not been repaired for a long time via social media.
During his inspection of Jambi City-Gelam River Road, the President was accompanied by Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Jambi Governor Al Haris, and acting head of Muaro Jambi District, Bachyuni Deliansyah.
