"I have asked the Jambi Governor to complete the special roads at the earliest, be it by suggesting a pattern of investment or other patterns," he informed in Jambi on Tuesday.
With regard to coal transport roads, the President reiterated that coal transport vehicles should ply on special roads instead of national ones. However, such vehicles are still using public roads in Jambi as the province has yet to construct special roads.
Widodo said that the Jambi Governor told him that the construction of special roads for coal transport vehicles is already underway.
A total of 10 thousand kilometers of district/municipal roads stretch across Jambi province, and around 4.6 thousand km of the roads are in a damaged condition. Furthermore, 250 km of 1,030 km provincial roads are damaged, he noted. Meanwhile, 130 km of 1,030 km national roads are also in a similar state.
For that reason, the central government is taking measures to accelerate the repair process by taking over the repairs of a number of provincial and district roads in Jambi.
Coal transport vehicles using national roads in the province are regulated by rules based on tonnage. On the field, police officers and officials from the Office of Transportation have found transport vehicles exceeding tonnage using the roads, which has led to the current damaged state of national roads.
After inspecting a damaged road in Gelam River on Tuesday, President Widodo proceeded to review a damaged road in Talang Duku, Muaro Jambi District.
