Jokowi made the statement while visiting the Pertanian Pembangunan Negeri (State Agricultural Development) SMK 1 of Kualuh Selatan, North Labuhanbatu District, North Sumatra Province, Wednesday.
"In SMK, 60-70 percent (of the lessons) should be in the form of practicum," he remarked.
According to Jokowi, SMK students need to receive adequate practicum lessons, as they are essential.
While reviewing SMK PPN 1, the president had a look at the plant nurseries, especially the palm oil nursery.
He said that the seed quality there was already good, but the nursery needed improvement, so that students can learn directly about the farming method.
"These students must be taught how to farm and garden well. We will help to improve (the facility)," he stated.

In addition to the agricultural nursery, the head of state highlighted that the government will help upgrade the animal farming practice facilities, especially cages or sheds, and send some farm animals there.
He emphasized the need for students to have an understanding of good and clean cages and ways to ensure that farm animals stay healthy.
"I will send goats, sheep, chickens, and ducks, so the teachers can teach about them to the students here," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that his side has been assigned by President Jokowi to repair animal cages and build irrigation and greenhouse spaces in the school.
"I was asked to improve the facilities and infrastructure here, such as goat sheds, cowsheds, agricultural irrigation, and greenhouses," Hadimuljono remarked.
President Jokowi said that the visit to the school was impromptu in nature, as he was keen to observe up-close the teaching and learning activities.
