Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto held an online meeting with the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (AICC) attended by President of AICC Wayne Forest and CEO of Freeport-McMorran Richard Adkerson to discuss energy transition.

The minister remarked that Indonesia has the opportunity to be on the receiving end for investment from the United States to conduct energy transition through the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) cooperation.

"As we all know, the investment commitment for sustainable infrastructure project, worth US$600 billion, had been announced by PGII, with developing countries as the investment priority," he noted through a statement, Tuesday.

According to the minister, Indonesia has an appeal as an investment destination for energy transition, which was marked by the unveiling of green bond, worth US$400 million, by Citi Group, among others.

This green bond is used to expand the green energy sector and geothermal operations in Indonesia.

During last year's G20 Summit in Bali, the US, Japan, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Denmark, Norway, and the European Union said they will invest US$20 billion to support energy transition in Indonesia.

The US also announced a joint project to support Indonesia as the first pioneer in the region in implementing Small Modular Reactor (SMR) in the ASEAN market, he noted.

For this joint project, Indonesia applies safe and trusted technology from US company NuScale Power, he stated.

Hartarto emphasized that Indonesia has committed to achieving the net zero emission target by 2060, so its impressive national economic growth should be aligned with adequate energy supply for the public.

Meanwhile, Adkerson expressed interest in Indonesia's stance on the issue of global climate change while also highlighting that Freeport-McMoran remains committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

During the meeting's closing, Forrest expressed his trust in Indonesia's current economy and deemed that the business climate in the Indonesian nation is becoming more interesting for investors in the US and other countries in the future.
