Magelang, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Anti-Corruption Village program can improve the community's welfare by optimizing the use of the village budget, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said.

"This activity shows that the Magelang district government wants its village heads and officials to avoid corruption," Head of the KPK's Program Technical Training Team Rino Haruno said in Borobudur sub-district, Magelang, on Wednesday.

The Anti-Corruption Village program was initiated by the KPK in collaboration with the Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"The KPK, together with several ministries, is taking concrete steps for holding the Anti-Corruption Village program so that village governance and the community understand how to avoid corruption," he added.

Magelang district secretary Adi Waryanto said that the program's technical training could make it easier for village heads and officials to meet Anti-Corruption Village indicators in accordance with the KPK's guidelines.

He also expressed his gratitude over Karangrejo village in Borobudur sub-district becoming one of the 29 Anti-Corruption Villages designated by the Central Java provincial government.

He stressed that officials' awareness of the Anti-Corruption Village program is important as the central government has provided a large budget for village administrations for preventing corruption and realizing accountability in financial management.

He said he hoped that more villages would be designated as Anti-Corruption Villages by meeting the five indicators set by the KPK.

The five indicators are strengthening governance, bolstering supervision, improving public service indicators, boosting community participation, and local wisdom.

"Let's make villages in Magelang transparent and trustworthy for a prosperous and competitive community," he added.

He said he also expected villages and communities in the district to be free from corruption and build integrity.

Currently, there are 29 Anti-Corruption Villages in Central Java, including Sijenggung, Maos Lor, Sudagaran, Tegalsambi, West Kemiri, Sumberejo, Sidorejo, Semayu, Tangkil, Ngunut, Banyuurip, Jatilor, Pandansari, Logede, Ngampel Wetan, Jeblog, and Cemani.

They further comprise Jepang, Karangrejo, Kutoharjo, Paninggaran, Bojongnangka, Karangbawang, Karanggedang, Sraten, Sendang, Rembul, Banyubiru, and Tanurejo.
