Batusangkar (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Film Censorship Board (LSF) disseminated information on the national movement of self-censorship in Batusangkar, Tanah Datar district, West Sumatra province, on Monday.

The dissemination event was attended by the local Communication and Information Office, the Education and Culture Office, as well as representatives from youth organizations, students, ulemas, and the media, among others.

"The culture of self-censorship serves as a national priority program that aims to improve the literacy quality of public viewing according to the age classification of the audience," said Naswardi, head of Commission III of the LSF, in Batusangkar, Tanah Datar, on Monday.

To improve the literacy quality of public viewing, the LSF has offered to implement an initiation program called "Village of Self-Censorship" in Tanah Datar district, he informed.

As of Monday, the program has been implemented in a number of regions in Indonesia, such as Tasikmalaya, Bali, Karang Anyer, and some other cities.

According to Naswardi, the LSF carried out a study involving a national survey, which recorded that only 46 percent of the national audience pays attention to the age classification when accessing shows.

This figure prompted the LSF to actively encourage people to practice self-censorship when selecting shows.

"Therefore, we adopted the theme of 'Advancing Culture by Viewing According to Age' for this dissemination event," he noted.

Meanwhile, the regional secretary of Tanah Datar, Iqbal Rama Dipayana, expressed that the district government welcomed the self-censorship culture dissemination event.

"The dissemination serves as a valuable opportunity for Tanah Datar district to obtain information related to film censorship and more educational shows. This, in turn, will provide great benefits to the people of Tanah Datar," he added.
