In order to succeed, all they have to do is plant high-quality seeds that will, in turn, boost the selling price (of the soybean)
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan affirmed that the government will soon prepare a formula aimed at enabling soybean farmers to derive more profits from their harvests.

While attending the "Soybean Joint Planting Movement" event in Tanggamus District, Lampung, on Friday, Minister Hasan stated that the government will also work in collaboration with related agencies in its efforts to provide superior soybean seeds, so that farmers can yield higher results.

"Farmers should no longer hesitate (to plant). In order to succeed, all they have to do is plant high-quality seeds that will, in turn, boost the selling price (of the soybean)," the minister noted in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday.

Cooperation, collaboration, and support to farmers are of the essence to advance Indonesian farmers, he emphasized.

Hence, to this end, he said, the central government, through the Trade Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry, is working in synergy with regional governments in order to elevate farmers' living standards.

"We must exert our greatest efforts to provide benefits to the farmers. Therefore, all related parties must collaborate. This is only the beginning. If we all join forces, we can expect positive changes in the upcoming five to six years," Hasan noted in the statement.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo stated that governments at the central and regional levels have been encouraging soybean farming activities in Indonesia in the hopes of reducing the country's dependence on imported soybeans.

"The (central) government, Commission IV of the DPR (House of Representatives), and Lampung Governor must be able to be the drivers of the country's efforts to achieve its interests in the soybean farming sector," Minister Limpo stated.

During the planting movement event, Minister Hasan also offered and sold subsidized cooking oil MinyaKita to local residents for Rp13 thousand (around US$0.87) per liter. As much as one ton of the oil was successfully sold to the residents of Bulok Sub-district, Tanggamus.
