Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos) is reforming its teaching materials to better respond to the current developments and social problems.

"This is done (so that the polytechnic) can become a platform for other institutions and universities in recording, analyzing, and carrying out efforts to solve social problems that each has different characteristics," Head of Poltekesos' Social Work Education Aep Rusmana noted here on Monday.

According to Rusmana, the teaching materials will be reformed in terms of their relevancy, learning composition, and practicum.

Social problems require in-depth analysis and both scientific and empirical study.

Meanwhile, the Social Affairs Ministry is tasked with tackling 26 social problems that are divided into the categories of needy, disability, underdevelopment, and disaster.

"As the social affairs minister always says, we must be proactive, see, listen, and resolve," Rusmana affirmed.

As a polytechnic under the ministry, it has a vital role in responding to the current social problems.

Poltekesos is a higher education institution that is a benchmark for other universities in navigating and manifesting social welfare in terms of scientific approaches and their applications.

Poltekesos serving this role is important, as social welfare is not just about poverty or disability but also about protection, empowerment, and social security.

Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of Poltekesos Admiral Nelson stated that the teaching material reformation can refer to the results of community service, as based on Ministerial Regulation No. 3 of 2020.

"It is important to interpret this ministerial regulation, so it can be de jure and de facto that leads to a national standard of higher education that is planned, measurable, visible, applicable, and accountable," he stated.

In transforming the teaching materials, his side has invited several speakers or experts in curriculum management to look at recent research results on current social problems.
