Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has assured that the availability of livestock for this year's Qurbani (animal sacrifice) is in surplus in the province.

"Currently, the availability of beef cattle in East Java is recorded at 1,003,700. The number exceeds the projection of cattle needs for Qurbani for 2023, which has been recorded at 56,851 (heads of) cattle. Thus, East Java has a surplus of beef cattle of 946,849," she said in a written statement released here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, there are 729,600 goats available in East Java, exceeding the need for 211,951 goats for Qurbani. Thus, there is a surplus of 517,469.

Then, the availability of sheep in East Java is 277 thousand heads, while the need for sacrifice is only 35,291. Thus, there is a surplus of 241,709.

The availability of buffaloes in the province has been recorded at 4,250, with the need pegged at 13. Thus, there is a surplus of 4,237 buffaloes.

"For this year's Eid al-Adha, the projected need for Qurbani animals in East Java is 483,859. Alhamdulillah (thank God), in East Java all (stocks) are in sufficient condition. There is even a surplus for cattle, goats, sheep, and buffaloes," she informed.

With regard to the livestock surplus, she invited other provinces and regions to buy livestock from East Java that have proven to be healthy and good and vaccinated against the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and lumpy skin disease (LSD).

Moreover, no case of FMD has been recorded in East Java in the past three months.

The governor also assured that vaccinations have currently been intensified in the province to curb LSD in livestock.

"This is an important part to ensure that Qurbani animals (such as) cattle, goats, sheep, and buffaloes in East Java are in healthy and good conditions, as well as fit for consumption," Parawansa remarked.
