Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Director of Media Management of the Communication and Informatics Ministry Nursodik Gunarjo believes that despite the use of digital media, people still using conventional media should not be left behind.

"Mass media should shift from conventional to digital, but it (the public) still needs the role of old media," he stated at a workshop held by South Kalimantan's Communication and Informatics Office here on Wednesday.

Gunarjo explained that mass media management must be conducted comprehensively, such as through collaboration between the current digital media and conventional media, as there are still several people, who prefer the old media.

"Digital media and old media must synergize with each other. The goal is that public media managed by the government can integrate with society," he affirmed.

He said the most important aspect is that the core or purpose of the information conveyed is not much different between the digital and conventional media.

Meanwhile, Secretary of South Kalimantan's Communication and Informatics Office Hairurraji said the workshop was attended by 54 representatives of regional apparatus organizations (OPD) from districts and cities in the province.

"This activity is held to realize clean and transparent governance in managing public information. The public needs transparency in public information," Hairurraji stressed.

He said the public is guaranteed by law to obtain information, and the synergy between the digital media and conventional media can support public information openness.

The workshop was also aimed at introducing public information media managed by the office that focuses on disseminating information on priority development issues to regions along with their management strategies to realize equitable development.

In the current times, internet has become the main reference for accessing news and information.

Conventional media, such as newspapers, magazines, and tabloids, have become the last reference for information seekers, according to the ministry.

Hence, to this end, the government ought to use social media productively and effectively to convey information to the public. Related news: Communication studies should be main subject in colleges: Expert
