Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has allocated a budget of Rp26.67 trillion (US$1.8 billion) to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) for the construction of basic infrastructure in the new capital city of Nusantara (IKN) this year.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimoeljono made this statement during a working session with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Hadimoeljono provided the commission with details of the budget allocation.

A total of Rp1.13 trillion is allocated to the Directorate General of Water Resources for managing main drainage, controlling floods, completing the construction of Sepaku Semoi Dam, developing ponds in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP), and constructing the Sepaku River Intake.

The Highways Directorate General receives Rp9.72 trillion for building roads, bridges, and logistics docks.

Approximately Rp11.58 trillion is allocated to the Cipta Karya Directorate General for constructing a water treatment plant, water service supporting infrastructure, pipe networks, wastewater treatment plants, and an integrated waste management facility.

A portion of the Cipta Karya's budget is also allocated for constructing government buildings, including offices for the president, vice president, and ministries.

The Housing Directorate General receives Rp4.2 trillion for constructing ministerial position tread houses and flats for civil servants.

The Construction Development Directorate General receives Rp30 billion for organizing training and certification activities for construction workers in the new capital city and managing goods and services procurements for IKN.

"We would like to report that currently there are eight thousand workers in IKN, with 30 percent of them being locally trained and certified workers," the minister noted.
