Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate child labor trafficking syndicates in order to stop cases of child exploitation.

"The number of cases involving child exploitation for labor is quite significant. Therefore, we need the cooperation of all parties," said KPAI Chairperson Ai Maryanti Solihah in Bandarlampung, Lampung, on Saturday.

She mentioned that child labor is common because the cost of employing children is lower than adult workers, and it is easier to control children.

"The vulnerability of children who become workers is very high. If they are sent to work without proper protection and the fulfillment of their rights as children, it is extremely dangerous," she warned.

Solihah emphasized the need for continuously disseminating information to prevent child labor trafficking.

The authorities are expected to provide assistance at all levels, she added.

"Additionally, we need to disseminate information about the importance of preventing child labor among families," she stated.

This step is necessary because sometimes children are forced by their families to work, which is also an issue that the commission focuses on, she explained.

She said that to prevent the trafficking of children for labor by certain syndicates, children need to be motivated to continue their education and pursue their goals.

"This is also being done with child victims of exploitation. Apart from providing protection, we are also encouraging children to want to attend school, study, and socialize with their peers," Solihah said.
