Jakarta (ANTARA) - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has said that innovation and creativity are key for developing vehicle electrification in Indonesia.

"Innovation and creativity of companies in creating new products is very much required, and it is very important. I believe that all companies have their own strategies to develop products or technology that will be equipped in their products," he said.

He made the remarks while attending the inauguration of Yaris Cross' production and first export in West Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday.

The minister said that all automotive companies have their own strategies for gauging the market amid the current trend of eco-friendly vehicles.

Further, automotive engines and technology are constantly developing and evolving, and that will never end, he added.

Industries are always racing against competitors when it comes to technology, however, such rivalry is deemed great by the government and the people because it could lead to an increase in the production of eco-friendly vehicles, he observed.

"What's good for us is that the competition, whether they realize it or not, (makes them) put in efforts to create eco-friendly engines, engines which we call as zero emission. It could be electric vehicle, battery electric vehicle, could be fuel cell, could be biocell, and so on and so forth," he elaborated.

Kartasasmita said despite the competition, the government is expecting industries to make products that adhere to the green mobility concept.

Green mobility tech includes many things, such as ICEs (internal combustion engines), which have gradually turned more eco-friendly, as well as low cost green cars (LCGCs), he elaborated.

He said Indonesia is very lucky to possess stocks of important minerals which are crucial in the production of electric vehicle batteries. Given this advantage, it is only normal for the government to prioritize the development of battery-based electric vehicles.

"Once more, tech is constantly evolving, technology competes with one another, and we, as a customer, benefit from their competition because it leads to green mobility," he remarked.
