The ministry continues its efforts to disseminate public information to the people in 3T regions, especially through Public Information Disseminators (PIPs), Public Information and Communication (IKP) Director General at the ministry Usman Kansong remarked.
PIP is a program undertaken under the ministry's IKP Directorate General, he noted during a press conference on the preparation for the launch of SATRIA-1 in Orlando, Florida, the US, on Friday.
According to Kansong, throughout this time, PIP members, while conducting their duty to prepare for programs and reporting, had to undergo a lengthy journey to receive internet access.
This is because disseminators can only obtain internet access to deliver their program materials or performance reports in the capital cities in the 3T regions' provinces.
"PIPs usually work in regions that do not have telecommunication network," Kansong remarked.
"Once internet network (from SATRIA-1) exists, we expect them to be able to work better, such as creating their work and program reports faster," he added.
Until the first semester of 2023, the ministry had coordinated 870 PIPs with work areas that encompass 34 provinces, 412 districts and cities, as well as 1,146 sub-districts.
PIPs have served more than 180,403 members of the population in Indonesia to obtain public information access.
SATRIA-1 is scheduled to be launched on June 18, 2023, in Cape Canaveral, Florida, the US, at 6 p.m. local time.
The Falcon-9 rocket belonging to SpaceX, an aerospace company owned by Elon Musk, will launch the SATRIA-1 communications satellite.
The 150-Gbps satellite will serve 50 thousand points of public facilities, such as schools, hospitals, public health centers (puskesmas), and government offices in villages and sub-districts in 3T regions.
