We try to prepare this while waiting for the satellite to reach its orbit at 146 degrees East LongitudeOrlando, US (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry confirmed that it is preparing to build infrastructure support in the form of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) at priority public facilities after the SATRIA-1 satellite was launched successfully.
VSAT, in this case, acts as one of the ground segments that became a signal receiving station, so that the internet can be utilized at the determined service points.
"We try to prepare this while waiting for the satellite to reach its orbit at 146 degrees East Longitude," the ministry's official, Arief Tri Hardiyanto, stated here, Sunday, local time.
The VSAT will have a receiving antenna in the form of a dish, with a diameter of less than three meters.
The equipment can receive and deliver data to the satellite. Meanwhile, the satellite functions as a signal forwarder to be delivered to other points above Earth.
As a result of this, coordination meeting between ministries and institutions is necessary to determine the public facility points that will be prioritized in the development of the ground segment.
Hence, when SATRIA-1 has reached the orbit, internet services can be utilized immediately.
"I expect that it will go according to plan, and there will be no gap between satellite availability and the ground segment," Hardiyanto remarked.
In addition, the ministry, through PT Satelit Nusantara Tiga (SNT) and Thales Alenia Space, will continue to conduct monitoring for the next six months, so that the satellite can be seamlessly positioned in orbit.
The Republic of Indonesia Satellite-1 (SATRIA-1) is intended to provide internet services in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, specifically in public facilities.
SATRIA-1 was successfully launched into space using a rocket owned by the aerospace company SpaceX from the Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex SLC 40, Florida, the US, at 6:21 p.m. local time.
SATRIA-1 is estimated to become operational at the end of 2023 or the start of 2024.
