Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, has said that the information technology used by the Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Protection Agency (BP2MI) could help to curtail human trafficking.

“There has been amazing progress in terms of technology,” he noted during a visit to the BP2MI office here on Monday.

BP2MI has established a command center as part of efforts to realize one of BP2MI’s nine priority programs for modernizing its system for big single data.

The command center serves as a control center for providing accurate and reliable data and information on Indonesian migrant workers.

The big single data used by BP2MI allows it to monitor the movements of all Indonesian migrant workers living abroad at any time, Mahfud noted.

“For example, if there is an accident in Saudi Arabia now, for some people, it can be seen from here. This is an outstanding ability,” he added.

He expressed amazement at the changes at the command center under the leadership of BP2MI head Benny Rhamdani.

Many types of transformation, especially in providing protection services to Indonesian migrant workers, have been made there, he noted.

He then appealed for all parties to synergize in eradicating the baiting of workers with jobs overseas by human traffickers.

The minister said that the steps taken by BP2MI reflect real efforts to protect the nation’s children from trafficking, as directed by President Joko Widodo.
