Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cellular operator Telkomsel, part of the state-owned enterprise Telkom Group, confirmed that the 3G to 4G network migration in hundreds of districts and cities in Indonesia was completed.

"Since the initial phase of network improvement from 3G to 4G/LTE until its completion this month, Telkomsel always prioritizes the comfort of all customers' digital activity experiences throughout this process," Telkomsel's Network Director Nugroho noted in a statement here, Tuesday.

Telkomsel completed the 3G to 4G network migration in 504 districts and cities. The project began in March 2022.

Gradually, the cellular operator conducted the process to over 49 thousand base transceiver station (BTS) towers.

The company is optimistic that the network service improvement effort will enhance the people's digital lifestyle experiences that can in turn open various potential areas for development in varied aspects of life, Nugroho remarked.

This effort is also expected to encourage the acceleration of national economic transformation through the use of the latest digital connectivity that is equitable throughout the country, he stated

After the 3G to 4G network migration, Telkomsel recorded an increase in the number of customers using uSIM 4G by 84 percent annually and growth in the 4G payload traffic by 14 percent annually.

Telkomsel also witnessed an increase in the number of equipment switching to 4G-enabled devices by 51 percent annually.

Telkomsel's success in completing the 3G to 4G network migration is supported by the company's commitment, infrastructure and technology readiness, and assurance of customers' comfort during the entire process.

It is also supported by the strengthening of supporting service ecosystem and adjustment toward regulations governing the telecommunication sector and consumer protection in Indonesia.

To support users' experience after migrating to 4G, the cellular operator strengthens the VoLTE technology utilization capability for 4G/LTE-based telephone service.

Telkomsel's VoLTE service is currently available in over 514 districts and cities and can be used in more than 100 mobile phone models.
