Speaking at a workshop on "Mainstreaming Human Rights in Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Management," he said that entrepreneurs play an important role in addressing climate change.
"The private sector should take social and environmental responsibility through concrete efforts," he affirmed.
Laoly urged them to help reduce carbon emissions and respect the rights of local communities in their operational areas.
To help businesses assess their human rights risks, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has developed the Prisma Application.
This web-based application allows businesses to self-evaluate their human rights performance and identify potential areas of improvement.
Meanwhile, Director General of Human Rights Dhahana Putra said that the Business and Human Rights National Strategy Program is a government priority.
He explained that the program is designed to strike a balance between the rights and obligations of businesses.
The program consists of three pillars: the government, businesses, and the community. These pillars work together to implement the Business and Human Rights Strategy Program.
"Entrepreneurs should not only focus on financial gain but also on social, environmental, and human rights aspects," he added.
Putra cited state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina as an example, which undergoes annual examinations by international institutions focusing on economic, social, and environmental aspects.
He said that more companies are expected to participate in the Business and Human Rights National Strategy Program, as the European Union and Japan have declared that products entering their countries should be human rights-friendly.
He also noted that Indonesia is currently formulating regulations related to the Business and Human Rights National Strategy.
"This demonstrates Indonesia's concern for matters related to business and human rights," noted Putra.
