Jakarta (ANTARA) - Prabowo Subianto, presidential candidate number 2, said on Tuesday that he is ready to "risk his life and soul" to fight for democracy, law, and human rights in Indonesia.

"I will risk my life and my soul to defend democracy, law, and human rights," he said during the first presidential debate in Jakarta aired live by state broadcasters.

Prabowo emphasized that the issues of law, human rights, the improvement of government and public services, and the eradication of corruption are crucial.

Therefore, these issues have been covered in the first point of his and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka's vision and mission document, he stated.

Prabowo said that he resolved to defend Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution at a young age.

This republic's foundation must be law and sovereignty, as stated in the 1945 Constitution written by the founding fathers of the nation, he added.

"That has been my fight all along," he said.

The debate on Tuesday covered topics such as government, law, and human rights, as well as eradicating corruption, strengthening democracy, improving public services, and building public harmony.

KPU gave three minutes to the presidential candidates to refute each other's arguments during the debate.

The next four debates will take place on December 22, January 7, January 21, and February 4.
