"The Industry Ministry encourages the government to work together with representatives of businesses and industry players from both countries to explore deeper economic potential, involvement, and cooperation," the Ministry's Director General for Regional Resilience and International Industrial Access Eko Cahyanto said here on Wednesday.
The potential for cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in the industrial sector needs to be optimized to ensure comprehensive benefits for both countries, he added.
He said that to achieve the net-zero emissions (NZE) target by 2060, Indonesia is implementing several key measures, namely increasing the use of renewable energy, reducing fossil energy, and utilizing carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Indonesia is also increasing electricity utilization in households and industries, and developing electric vehicle infrastructure in the transportation sector.
"In addition, the government is striving to achieve the nationally determined contribution (NDC) by reducing CO2 emissions by 358 MtCO2e (metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) by 2030," Cahyanto said.
The NZE and NDC targets can be achieved through decarbonization strategies and the application of government regulations on the development of new, renewable energy, he added.
Indonesia is also seeking other alternatives to coal-fired power plants, such as electric energy sources.
Moreover, the government will apply CCS in the oil and gas industry sector and bolster the use of electric battery-powered vehicles, the implementation of energy management, and the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS).
Earlier, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati discussed renewable energy investment plans with investors and companies from South Korea at a business forum in Incheon.
The minister drew attention to Indonesia's commitment to continuing to expedite the transition to clean and renewable energy through means such as the Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM), which was launched during Indonesia's G20 Presidency in November 2022.
