Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Basarah has advised provincial authorities to formulate regulations for nurturing nationalism and the national ideology of Pancasila in their respective regions.

In a written statement received here on Friday, the deputy speaker said the regional regulations would bolster the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency's (BPIP's) effort to disseminate Pancasila values throughout Indonesia.

"Nurturing Pancasila at the national level remains the duty of BPIP, yet, unlike the BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency), they have no regional branches. Hence, if every province has a regulation on Pancasila, it will bolster the dissemination of the national ideology," he explained.

Basarah conveyed the remarks after receiving delegates from East Kalimantan's special team for the drafting of a regional regulation on Pancasila education and national outlook at the Parliament Complex here.

He pointed out that besides East Kalimantan, the regional legislature of Yogyakarta has also formulated a regulation on nurturing Pancasila.

During the meeting, the deputy speaker suggested that the drafting team use the word "nurture" instead of "education" in the draft regulation’s title to better reflect its contents.

"If we use 'education,' the function is already under the responsibility of the Education and Culture Office, while your regional regulation draft is seeking to regulate how to ensure residents know, enliven, and preserve Pancasila. Hence, we should use 'nurture' instead," he explained.

He stressed that nurturing Pancasila values in the digital era has become more urgent than ever as the national ideology is now being exposed to foreign and transnational ideologies.

"We also see that a lot of terrorist suspects have been arrested on the outskirts of hamlets or villages. Therefore, if each regional authority has its regulation on Pancasila nurturing, it will be better," Basarah stated.
