"GPM is our quick action in responding to fluctuations in chicken meat prices ahead of Eid al-Adha," NFA Head Arief Prasetyo Adi stated here on Wednesday.
According to Adi, the GPM, which also aims to maintain price stability after the Eid al-Adha momentum, is being conducted at over 3,800 locations across Indonesia.
This provision of purebred chicken at affordable prices was expected to meet the demands that usually increase before religious holidays.
The NFA is currently holding 3,866 market points offering cheap chicken meat throughout the country by involving private parties.
The GPM is being held from June 28 to July 2, 2023.
In the Jakarta area, the GPM program is supported by city-owned slaughterhouse operator Dharma Jaya and agri-food firm at 11 places, mostly in strategic locations, such as flats.
"The quantity of chicken sold to consumers per location point is in the range of one to two tons per day at a price of Rp35 thousand-Rp36 thousand per day," Adi remarked.
The GPM market serves the community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, he remarked.
In addition, he stressed that the increase in chicken meat prices was still within the reasonable limits.
According to Adi, the prices of chicken meat in the Jakarta area that had reportedly reached Rp50 thousand per kg are specifically for chicken fillets and not for carcass chicken meat.
"Carcass chicken, weighing around 1.3-1.4 kg, costs Rp43 thousand-Rp44 thousand (US$2.94). If converted, the price is still around Rp36 thousand per kg, and it is still reasonable," he explained.
