Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Brawijaya University (UB), Malang, East Java, has dispatched around 14 thousand students to one thousand villages under the 2023 Student Building Villages Program (MMD).

The MMD program has been designed to increase the role of the university and students in contributing to villagers' social, economic, and environmental development positively, UB Rector Prof. Widodo said here on Friday.

"In this MMD program, UB collaborates with many parties, including the Brawijaya District Military Command," he added.

The students, who have been divided into 215 groups, will be dispatched in 5 batches from June 30 to July 4, 2023. They will be accompanied by field lecturers who will assist them.

The MMD participants will not only visit villages, but also participate in community service activities, such as social counseling, training, community empowerment, and other activities that can help support village development, Widodo informed.

The students will also carry out case studies and try to offer solutions to the problems faced by village communities, ranging from barriers to access to health facilities and education.

Widodo expressed the hope that all participants will hone their soft skills while building interdisciplinary cooperation and leadership through managing programs that meet the needs of the villages.

It is hoped that villagers can feel the program benefits sustainably, he added.

MMD has also been designed as a platform for students to develop their perspectives and apply the knowledge gained in classrooms for village development.

This is so that the impact can be felt by students, lecturers, rural communities, and the campus.

"The students will deeply explore all the potential that exists in each village. Although their service period is only 40 days, I believe they can maximize their potential," the rector said.

Under the MMD program, all students will be given an allowance of Rp1.4 million for one month.
