The harvest strategy is an important step in the process of developing, testing, and implementing the yellowfin tuna, skipjack, and bigeye tuna harvest strategy in Indonesian waters, ministry official Agus Suherman informed in a statement issued on Saturday.
A lecturer and researcher from Bogor Agricultural University, Budy Wiryawan, said that the formulation of the harvest strategy and operation model will be the domain of researchers.
Meanwhile, decision-making regarding controlling fishing activities and the number of fish that can be caught will be the authority of fishery managers.
The overlap between conservation management and fishery harvest may trigger a conflict, thus synergy in maintaining the life cycle, food chain, and fish resources is necessary so that the fish can be preserved.

In addition, by gaining an understanding of the social, economic, and environmental factors that affect the prosperity of fishery entrepreneurs, policy makers and managers can develop effective strategies for the long-term prosperity of the fishermen community.
This would also be beneficial for the conservation of fish resources and marine ecosystems.
As reported earlier, the strategy for tropical tuna fishery harvest in Indonesian waters has been ratified by Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.
The development and implementation of the tropical tuna fishery harvest strategy in Indonesian waters is a priority action under the tuna, skipjack, and tongkol fishery management plan (RPP-TCT) for tuna and neritic tuna species.
The RPP-TCT policy was first outlined in the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Decree No. 107/KEPMEN-KP/2015 and amended by Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Decree No. 121/KEPMEN-KP/2021.
